Tavern AI Tutorial for Windows with PygmalionAI Locally

Download the Tavern AI client:

Extract the client:
- Choose a location where it won’t be accidentally deleted and is easily accessible later.

Install Node.js:
- Download Node.js as it is required for TavernAI to function.

Run Tavern AI:
- Navigate to the Tavern AI location and run the file named
Start.bat
. - Check if a command prompt window opens, indicating a successful installation.
- Navigate to the Tavern AI location and run the file named

Access TavernAI:
- If successful, the command prompt should state “TavernAI started http://127.0.0.1:8000“.
- Open this URL in your browser to access TavernAI.

Connect TavernAI to Backend:
- In the start menu, click the three lines (burger menu) in the top right.
- Two tabs will appear: Characters and Settings. Click on Settings.
- Connect TavernAI with Kobold AI. Start Kobold AI and load the PygmalionAI model in the Kobold UI.
- Copy the URL of KoboldAI (default http://localhost:5000/) and paste it in the API URL box in TavernAI. Click ‘Connect’.

Set up TavernAI:
- Customize your character’s name and picture in the ‘Characters’ tab. Save custom character pictures to
TavernAI\public\User Avatars\
. - Create a character by clicking on the plus icon, entering Name, Description, Personality, First message, and a Picture (optional).
- Click ‘Create’ to finish. Back out and click on the created character to start chatting.

Ending the Session:
- To end the session, close the command prompts of TavernAI and KoboldAI.
- Note: Reloading the page soft resets TavernAI, requiring you to click the connect button and choose your character again.
